CHAGA MUSHROOM VS ACAI BERRY
64Chaga Mushroom Vs. Acai Berry: Which One Is Nature’s Best Super Antioxidant?
If you are in search of a great herbal super food that will improve your overall health and give you a fresh burst of antioxidants, most health experts and nutritionists will ask you to consume acai berry for the numerous acai health benefits. But the really enlightened of the lot will recommend something new, a lesser known herb to you – Siberian Chaga mushrooms.
It is well known that acai berry, sourced from the Brazilian rainforests is one of nature’s best super antioxidants that can prevent ageing and preserve your youth. It has a very strong antioxidant vitamin content as well as high level of anthocyanins which make it a potent antioxidant super food. It contains double the amount of antioxidants found in blueberries and ten times the amount found in grapes.
But you will be surprised to know that Chaga mushrooms and Chaga health drinks contain 10 times more antioxidants than acai berry and acai berry health drinks and juices. And Chaga also contains 6 times more antioxidants than wild blueberries, vitamin C and citrus fruits like pine apples and guavas!
In short that means that if you want to extend your youth, prevent the appearance of the signs of ageing, fight environmental damage caused by free radicals and reduce the amount of free radicals, you have to consume Chaga health drinks.
In fact Chaga mushroom is known as nature’s best and richest source of super antioxidants and it is fondly called the mushroom of immortality, the silver bullet of nature and the king of Adaptogenic herbs.
Some of the known active compounds abounding in Chaga are xylo galactoglucan, protein bound polysaccharides, melanin, lanostanoid triterpenoids, lactones, inotodiol, B vitamins or inositols and betulin flanosterols. Among all the natural herbal super foods that are available, Chaga mushroom reports the highest ORAC score in various lab tests conducted in Russia and Poland and Finland. There are 1104 ORAC units in per gram of powdered Chaga extract. Compared to wild blueberries or pomegranate or pineapples or guava or oranges or limes/lemons or apples, Chaga has a much higher concentration of super antioxidants. That roughly translates into a stronger and more powerful free radicals destroyer.

Actually, the ORACvalue is different for each Chaga product.
The 1104 TEunits /gram you mention is for a Chaga extract, produced by Limonnik in Vladivostok. This is a good rating!

The Chaga International product e.g. has a meager 52,452 p/liter (1000 grams) - but this is of course raw, unextracted Chaga in a liquid. Which is pretty useless, we can't digest this unextracted stuff.

The Oriveda Chaga extract has the highest ORAC level so far: 1,467 TE units/gram or 146,700 TEunits p/100grams - if you want to compare this to other superfoods, go to http://www.ORACvalues.com.

The tricky thing is many sellers simply give a big number - like Chaga International. If you know what to look for (and now you do) you will notice this big number is per 1000 grams - so actually pretty low in comparison.
Other tricks include values 'per serving' (what is a serving ? - impossible to compare with other foods.) Be careful - don't be misled.
Nice article, Poulomi!!
